Bologna coach Roberto Donadoni is open to the signature of Liverpool striker and Lazio target Mario Balotelli this summer.

The 26-year-old forward has been training with the Liverpool reserves all summer, and is not part of manager Jurgen Klopp’s plans going forward at Anfield.

The mercurial forward wants to play in Italy in order to win back his place in the national team squad, and has attracted attention from a few mid-table Serie A clubs thus far.

Lazio are interested in snapping him up this summer, and have reportedly held talks with Liverpool over a proposed deal for the mercurial Italy, but Bologna are also set to step up in their chase for the striker.

Bologna have been keeping a close watch on proceedings at Anfield, and are interested in Balotelli, but were waiting for the nod from coach Donadoni this month.

And according to Italian broadcaster Mediaset Premium Sport, the Bologna manager is open to the idea of incorporating the Liverpool flop into his squad for the new season.

The Rossoblu are expected to propose an initial loan deal in the coming days, and Liverpool could pay the lion’s share of Balotelli’s wages during his loan stint in Italy.

Balotelli was largely unimpressive during his loan stint at AC Milan last season, and it remains to be seen whether another return to Italy would help him to turn a declining career graph.
