Newcastle United are closing in on the signature of Tottenham Hotspur full-back DeAndre Yedlin, who has also been linked with Aston Villa.

Rafael Benitez is aiming to make further additions to his squad at St. James' Park before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.

Yedlin, who had a spell on loan at Newcastle's fierce rivals Sunderland last season, is now very much on the agenda at the Magpies.

Indeed, according to the Shields Gazette, Yedlin could well be one of Newcastle's next signings.

The attack minded full-back, who Spurs snapped up from MLS side Seattle Sounders, has also been linked with Newcastle's Championship rivals Aston Villa.

But it appears Benitez's men may have the advantage over Villa when it comes to snapping up Yedlin, who would be no stranger to the intense pressure-cooker atmosphere of north east football.

Yedlin made 23 Premier League appearances for Sunderland last season and featured in both the Black Cats' league clashes with Newcastle.

His contract with Spurs runs until 2018.
