Tyler Denton has revealed that he did not expect to start in Leeds United’s 1-0 win over Luton Town in an EFL Cup second round game last night.

The youngster, who made his senior competitive debut for the Whites at Kenilworth Road, scored a 23rd minute screamer to mark the occasion.

Leeds headed into the game with the League Two outfit on the back of an impressive 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in a Championship game last weekend.

And Denton, whose goal helped Leeds to progress to the next round of the domestic cup competition, insisted that although he did not expect to start against Luton Town, he was prepared in case an opportunity came his way.

“No, not really”, he said in an interview with the BBC Radio Leeds when asked if he expected to start the game.

“But I was prepared, I think you've got to be prepared.

“The team had a good win on Saturday so there were no reasons for him [head coach Garry Monk] to make changes, but he did.

“I was prepared and didn’t pass up on the chance.”

Denton, who featured prominently for Leeds in pre-season, was an unused substitute in the Yorkshire giants’ penalty shootout win over Fleetwood Town in the first round of the EFL Cup earlier in the month.
