Rangers boss Mark Warburton continues to be impressed with defender Philippe Senderos and has lauded the former Arsenal man, in another sign he is considering snapping up the free agent.

The Gers had been all set to sign Joleon Lescott from Aston Villa, but the defender had a change of heart after heading up to Glasgow for his medical, deciding he did not want to uproot his young family.

Senderos, who is a free agent following his departure from Grasshopper, has been training with Rangers for over a week and appears to be the next logical move for Warburton as he looks to sign another centre-back.

And the Rangers manager is nothing if not impressed with the Swiss defender.

"He’s one of the people we are looking at", Warburton told Rangers TV, when asked about Senderos.

"There’s no doubt Philippe’s CV is very high quality, you don’t play at the clubs he has played at for as long as he has without having that quality there.

"All credit to his fitness, he has been training alone, he’s dealt with the physical demands and fitted really well into the group.

"He has shown his quality quickly so he’s one of the people we are looking at undoubtedly."

Senderos has played as some of the biggest clubs in the game, turning out for Arsenal, AC Milan and Valencia.

Warburton has made a raft of signings this summer as he looks to make sure the Gers are competitive in the Scottish Premiership.

And he is now just looking to add a centre-back, having recently brought in striker Joe Garner.
