Stoke City target Phil Jones has been assured that he still has a future at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho.

The England defender, whose career has been laced with niggling injuries, has not featured for Manchester United this season under Mourinho, and there is concern that he might not be in the plans of the Red Devils boss.

His future at Manchester United came further under the scanner when Stoke City assistant manager Mark Bowen said earlier this week that the Potters are looking to sign the 24-year-old defender.

There has also been speculation that Jones features on Arsenal’s shortlist of defensive targets, as the Gunners become more desperate to add bodies to their squad towards the end of the window, but they could face another summer disappointment.

As according to the BBC, the defender has received assurances from the club that he is part of Mourinho’s plans going forward, laying the speculation surrounding his future to rest.

Jones himself is unwilling to leave Manchester United this summer, and wants to prove his worth under the tutelage of Mourinho this season.

The defender struggled with injuries last season and didn’t play a single league game after featuring in Manchester United’s first game of the new year against Swansea.

Mourinho has said that he is waiting for September to roll in when the fixtures will come thick and fast and he will be able to provide more minutes to his squad players.
