Rangers new boy Joe Garner admits that the chance to win trophies and medals played big role in his decision to switch to Ibrox this summer.

The 28-year-old English forward signed a three-year deal with Mark Warburton’s side on Saturday to complete his switch from English second tier outfit Preston North End.

He is one of the array of players Rangers have signed this summer to bolster their squad for the Scottish top division, and Garner admits that once he heard the Gers were interested, he was only going to join one club.

The forward conceded that despite talks with other clubs he was happy at Preston, but admits that the lure of winning trophies and playing football in front of a passionate Ibrox crowd was too good to turn down.

Garner told Rangers TV: “It was a couple of weeks ago now I first heard about the interest from Rangers, and once I spoke to the manager here and heard his ideas, I knew there was only one place I wanted to go and I really wanted to be a part of things here.

“I spoke to a few other clubs, but I was happy with where I was at the time, but once Rangers came in I felt it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“The possibility of winning trophies and medals, as well as playing in front of massive crowds every week really made me want to be a part of things.”

Garner scored once in the English Championship this season before he agreed to a move to Scotland.

He will be hoping to make his debut for his new club against Kilmarnock this Friday.
