Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not concerned about Daniel Sturridge’s recent comments about his position in the team.

Sturridge didn’t feature in Liverpool’s 4-3 win at Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season, but the forward was used on the right flank against Burnley and Burton Albion recently.

The striker has vented his frustration at being played on the flanks, and indicated that he wants to return to his natural position of being the centre forward at Liverpool.

Klopp has insisted that he doesn’t see the England international as a winger, but is being forced to play him there in order to find a place for him in the starting eleven this season.

However, he stressed that his style of football is flexible, and Sturridge doesn’t need to hug the touchline all the time during the game, even if he starts on the flanks.

Klopp said in a press conference: "I think the first thing is I don't want to play Daniel as a wide player.

"We need to find a formation where players can start.

"We didn't need an offensive winger against Burnley and Burton.

"I know him, we have tasks and there is no issue. It is not that you have to play there, it is flexible football.

"Daniel is a very smart player.”

Liverpool will travel to Tottenham this Saturday, and it remains to be seen whether Sturridge gets his wish of playing in his favoured centre forward position at White Hart Lane.
