Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has insisted that he would relish playing against his former team Athletic Bilbao in the latter stages of the Europa League.

The Red Devils, who signed the Spaniard from Athletic Bilbao in 2014, finished last season in fifth spot and will hence play in the Europa League.

The group stage draw for the continental competition will be conducted tomorrow and Manchester United are expected to be seeded in pot one along with Herrera’s former employers Athletic Bilbao, meaning the two cubs can only face each other in the knockout rounds later.

And the 27-year-old, who heaped praise on Athletic Bilbao, explained that it would indeed be a special occasion if he comes up against the Basque outfit.

“Of course it would be! I spent three fantastic years there”, Herrera told MUTV.

"When I left my home in Zaragoza, I was there for 12 years, I arrived to Bilbao and everything that I expected was even better.

“It was a fantastic club with fantastic people working there. I really felt at home very quickly and my family is from Bilbao as well.

“So of course if we face Athletic then that will be a very special game for me.”

Herrera, whose present contract with Manchester United runs until 2018, has thus far amassed 75 appearances in all competitions for the club, with three of those coming in the present campaign.
