Southampton have slapped in a bid for Tottenham Hotspur linked midfielder Sofiane Boufal, according to French sports daily L’Equipe, but it does not meet Lille's asking price.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder’s future at Lille has been under the scanner all summer, and he has been consistently linked with a move to the Premier League.

Tottenham have been tipped to be interested in the Moroccan international, and even Watford reportedly placed an offer on Lille’s table earlier in the summer.

And Premier League interest in the player is only increasing as it has been claimed that Southampton have slapped in a bid worth €14m for Boufal in recent hours.

Claude Puel is a fan of the schemer, and has pushed Southampton towards making a serious bid for the player, but it seems they may need to add a few more millions to their offer.

Lille are ready to sell Boufal this summer, but want a fee of around €20m before they agree to let the player leave the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

And it has been suggested that Boufal is ready to stay at Lille until at least January if none of his suitors match the club's asking price in the final week of the transfer window.

The Moroccan has a contract until 2019 with Lille.
