Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are working on deals to sign Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi, but admits that they still not close enough to announce their signings, even though he is 99 per cent confident of making additions.

After weeks of speculation, it seems Arsenal are on the verge of bringing in a forward and a defender in Perez and Mustafi in the next few days in a double swoop.

Arsenal have triggered Deportivo La Coruna striker Perez’s release clause worth £17m, and are in final talks with Valencia for the signature of Mustafi for a fee of around £35m.

Wenger confirmed that the Gunners are indeed working on the two deals, but insisted that they are not yet close enough to announce either of the two signings today.

On the double swoop for Perez and Mustafi, the Arsenal boss said in a press conference: “We are working on the deals.

“We are not close enough to say that we can announce them today, but will we sign anyone before deadline day? Yes, I am 99 per cent confident.”

Arsenal paid £34m for Granit Xhaka, and around £2m for Rob Holding earlier in the summer.

The successful completion of deals to sign Perez and Mustafi would take Arsenal’s spending to around £90m in the current transfer window.
