Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has termed Paris Saint-Germain as amongst the favourites in the Champions League.

The Gunners have been knocked out of the Champions League Round of 16 for six seasons running and them not winning their group has been identified as a key reason behind their exit early in the competition.

However, Wenger feels Arsenal will again find it hard to win their group as he feels French champions PSG are amongst the favourites for the entite competition.

The Arsenal boss also identified Swiss champions FC Basel as a possible banana skin as they have beaten English sides in European competitions in the recent past.

On Arsenal’s Champions League group, Wenger said in a press conference: “We got basically what we expected.

“Maybe Paris Saint-Germain are one of the favourites, but we want to qualify for the next stage, possibly as group winners.

“Ludogorets – we don’t know much about, but Basel have done well against Chelsea and Manchester United, so we have to prepare well.”

Arsenal have been regular Champions League participants for more than a decade-and-a-half, but their record in the competition is average at best.

They have never won Europe’s elite competition, and have been finalists just once, where they were beaten by Barcelona in 2006.
