Italian side Hellas Verona are close to sending in-demand defender Filip Helander to Serie A side Bologna on loan.

The Swedish defender has been strongly linked with both Sunderland and Newcastle United, recently having to bat away reports that he had already visited the Stadium of Light ahead of a potential move.

Helander though was clear in his desire to move to the Premier League – however it seems the Swede will have to wait a little longer to realise his dream.

According to Italian broadcaster Sky Italia, Helander is poised to link up with Bologna on a season-long loan deal.

The deal will contain a purchase option in the event Helander impresses at the Serie A side.

In exchange, Hellas Verona will scoop up full-back Nicolo Cherubin from Bologna, also on a season-long loan with a purchase option.

Hellas Verona signed Helander from Swedish side Malmo just last summer, after the defender had helped the club to two top flight Swedish titles.
