Rangers manager Mark Warburton admits that his side were way below par in the first half against Kilmarnock last night.

Warburton’s men were in buoyant mood going into the game at Rugby Park, but a lacklustre performance in the first half meant, the Gers went into the break a goal down.

James Tavernier scored from a sumptuous free kick to level the scores for Rangers in the second half, and when Kilmarnock’s Greg Taylor received his marching orders just after the hour mark, the away side looked set to snatch all three points.

However, the home side limited Rangers to just a few half chances with some resolute defending, and the Glasgow giants left the pitch with just a point to show for their efforts.

The Rangers boss has insisted that his players are honest enough to know their performance in the first half was just not up to the mark and despite a better showing after the break, he urged his side to learn from their struggles at Rugby Park.

Warburton told Rangers TV: “The players are honest.

“[I have got a] fantastic group of players in terms of their honesty, they realise that the first half was way below the standard, that wasn’t a Rangers team.

“Discussed it at half time, and [we were] much better in the second half, the players moved the ball, showed more desire and created chances.

“But we dropped two available points, and we got to learn as a group. I don’t say that lightly, but we have to realise that it can’t take 45 minutes [to get going].”

Celtic will have the opportunity to replace Rangers at the top of the Premiership if they get a win against Aberdeen at Parkhead later today.
