Arsenal new boy Shkodran Mustafi has revealed he has spoken to Mesut Ozil about the Gunners and took no time to be convinced about the merits of a move.

The Germany international defender has penned a five-year contract with Arsenal and joins the club from La Liga giants Valencia for a fee of €41m, making him the third most expensive German player of all time.

When a move to Arsenal was on the cards, Mustafi spoke to international team-mate Ozil and now readily admits he cannot wait to link up with the Gunners.

Mustafi told Sky Deutschland: "For me it is a big club with a huge history and a step forward. I am glad everything worked out and everyone is happy.

"I spoke with Mesut, he told me everything", the centre-back continued.

"It was all very positive and I was quickly convinced because I myself find the club really great."

The defender is landing at the Emirates Stadium on a five-year contract to keep him at the club until the summer of 2021.

He will come into direct competition with countryman Per Mertesacker for a starting spot, however his fellow German is currently out injured, something which was one of the reasons Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was prompted to make an offer.
