Turkish giants Galatasaray are closing in on the signing of midfielder Cheick Tiote from Newcastle United, with the Ivorian due in Istanbul today.

According to Turkish daily Hurriyet, the midfielder is due to arrive in Turkey at 16:30 Turkish time today. Tiote is expected to have a medical before then putting pen to paper on a deal with Galatasaray tomorrow.

Tiote has been linked with leaving Newcastle for much of the summer and now it appears he is poised to call time on his spell at St. James' Park.

Galatasaray turned to Tiote after failing to reach an agreement for Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra.

The 30-year-old joined Newcastle in 2010 from Dutch Eredivisie outfit FC Twente and quickly established himself as a regular fixture with the Magpies.
