Chelsea have opened the track for Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij for the last few days of the window, and are interested in taking the Dutch defender to England.

The Premier League giants have faced nothing but frustration in their chase for a defender this summer, with both Napoli and AC Milan rejecting big money offers for Kalidou Koulibaly, and Alessio Romagnoli respectively.

Torino’s Nikola Maksimovic is also on their radar, but it seems the Serb is on his way to Napoli, leaving Chelsea feeling further frustrated with their failures in the transfer market.

Antonio Conte has turned his attention towards Lazio’s De Vrij in a last ditch attempt to add depth to his defensive resources, but it seems it could be another difficult negotiation.

According to Sportitalia, Chelsea are currently ready to put in €25m on Lazio’s plate for the Dutch international, but it seems the Roman club want far more than the Blues are willing to offer.

It has been claimed that Lazio will only listen to offers for De Vrij, if they are around the €40m region, and are unwilling to lose a key player towards the end of the window.

Chelsea could be priced out again in their chase for a defender in the final days of the summer transfer window if they don’t agree to meet Lazio’s financial demands for the Dutchman.

De Vrij joined Lazio from Feyenoord in 2014, and has a contract until 2018 with the Serie A outfit.
