Hull City are closing in on signing Will Keane from Manchester United.

The Tigers are frantically looking to add to their squad before the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday evening and have been linked with a number of players, including Tottenham Hotspur's Ryan Mason and Derby County's Jeff Hendrick.

Now they are rapidly closing in on Keane, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

Keane is a player caretaker boss Mike Phelan knows well from his time as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Old Trafford.

And Phelan believes Keane would prove to be a useful acquisition for Hull's Premier League campaign, which has already made a promising start.

The forward has had a number of loan spells away from Manchester United, spending time at Wigan Athletic, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and, most recently, Preston North End.

A product of Manchester United's youth system, Keane would appear to be unlikely to feature in the first team under Jose Mourinho if he stays at the Red Devils this season.
