Greek giants Olympiacos are currently leading the chase for Newcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote, but he is also attracting interest from Russia.

The 30-year-old midfielder has not featured for Newcastle United this season, and is expected to be out of St. James’ Park by the time the transfer window shuts down tomorrow before midnight.

The Ivorian is not keen to play in the second tier of English football, and has been attracting interest from clubs across Europe because of his Premier League experience.

He came close to joining Galatasaray at the weekend, but on Monday the switch fell apart.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Greek giants Olympiacos are currently the favourites to land Tiote before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, and are holding all the aces in the chase.

However, Tiote has also attracted late transfer window interest from Russia and two unnamed Russian clubs are considering snapping up the 30-year-old.

Newcastle United are willing to offload the midfielder, and are currently engaged in talks with Tiote’s representatives and interested suitors to reach an agreement.

He has made 153 appearances for Newcastle since joining the club from FC Twente in 2010, and has just under a year left on his contract.
