Aston Villa supremo Dr Tony Xia says that time has shown it was he who was telling the truth about Joleon Lescott's failed move to Rangers and not Gers boss Mark Warburton.

Lescott had been poised to move to Rangers from Aston Villa, with the Championship side even agreeing to pay part of the final year of his contract to smooth the path to a deal.

The centre-back headed to Glasgow for talks, but the deal fell through, with Warburton claiming Lescott did not want to uproot his family. It was suggested elsewhere that the defender had failed a medical.

Xia insisted that a promise over personal terms made by Rangers was not kept and now, after the defender joined Greek side AEK Athens, he feels he has been proven to be the man telling the truth.

The Villa supremo, asked whether Warburton would like to apologise to him, wrote on Twitter: "Not the reason of medical checking failed either. Time and truth speaks who lied as I said…Have to put this clear."
