Tottenham Hotspur have signalled their desire to fight Everton right to the line for Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

Earlier this evening, Everton agreed a £30m fee with Newcastle for Sissoko, placing themselves in pole position for the France international midfielder, who was then reported to be heading to Merseyside for a medical.

But according to the BBC, Spurs have now matched Everton's £30m bid for Sissoko, leaving the decision in the player's hands as to which side he wishes to join.

Sissoko was on the way to Merseyside to hold talks with Everton and it remains to be seen whether he now turns round to go to London.

Everton will be doing their best to sell a move to Goodison Park to Sissoko, but Spurs can offer the midfielder to the chance to play Champions League football this season.
