French defender Mamadou Sakho won’t be leaving Liverpool on transfer deadline day despite interest from clubs in England and in Europe.

The 26-year-old defender was sent back from Liverpool’s pre-season party in the United States by Jurgen Klopp, due to disciplinary issues and is yet to feature for the Reds this season.

There has been widespread speculation that the defender could be on his way out of Liverpool, with interest from clubs such as West Brom, Crystal Palace and Stoke City.

And with Liverpool recruiting defenders this summer, it seemed highly unlikely that the Frenchman would be able to play much under Klopp’s tutelage this season.

However, according to French sports daily L’Equipe, Sakho has decided to stick around at Liverpool and is ready to fight for his place in Klopp’s team this season.

The defender considered all the options on his table, but has decided against leaving the Merseyside giants on transfer deadline day, and will look to get back to the good books of Klopp this term.

Sakho still has close to four years left on his contract with Liverpool, and will have his work cut out to find his way back into the Reds manager’s thinking in the next few weeks and months.
