Lazar Markovic is set to leave Liverpool for Sporting Lisbon on a loan deal.

The Serbian winger, who was snapped up by Liverpool for £20m from Benfica in the summer of 2014, is surplus to requirements under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp this season.

Markovic is now set to be playing his football back in Portugal this season as, according to Portuguese outlet zerozero.pt, the winger is closing on a loan move to Sporting Lisbon.

The Portuguese side's coach Jorge Jesus is a firm fan of Markovic and has been keen for Sporting Lisbon to sign him.

Sporting Lisbon are now hoping to tie up a move for Markovic before the transfer window slams shut.
