Lorient have turned their attention towards signing Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote after losing Didier Ndong to Sunderland earlier today.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder joined the Premier League outfit on a deal worth €16m earlier this afternoon, and Lorient are now looking to bring in a replacement before the window slams shut tonight.

According to France Football, the Ligue 1 outfit are considering the option of signing Newcastle midfielder Tiote, and are expected to make a loan offer in the next few hours.

The 30-year-old midfielder has been looking to leave the Magpies all summer, but his proposed move to Greek giants Olympiacos broke down after the club pulled out of the deal.

Two unnamed Russian clubs are said to be interested in the midfielder, but Newcastle are yet to receive any concrete offers, leading to speculation that Tiote will be forced to continue on Tyneside.

However, with Lorient showing an interest in snapping up the midfielder on loan, his hopes of leaving Newcastle could be revived in the next few hours of the window.

Tiote has little less than a year left on his contract with the club, and is yet to play a single minute of football this season.
