Mario Balotelli is expected to be in France later today to undergo a medical with Nice, but the club are still in talks with Liverpool over a move for the mercurial Italian.

Palermo have cooled their interest in the 26-year-old forward, and Nice have emerged as the favourites to land the Italian on transfer deadline day.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Balotelli will be in France later today in order to undergo a medical with Nice ahead of his proposed move to join the Ligue 1 outfit.

However, the deal could still fail to see the light of day as Nice are yet to reach an agreement with Liverpool, and the two clubs have been locked in talks to find a solution.

Nice are not ready to pay Balotelli’s current salary of €6m per season, and are discussing various options with Liverpool to find an agreement to sign the forward by the end of the day.

They are open to the idea of signing Balotelli on loan with no option to make the transfer permanent, as the club are keen to add one more forward to their ranks before the transfer window runs out.

The Ligue 1 outfit are also ready to sign him up on a permanent contract, but for that to happen Liverpool would have to agree to let him go for free, something which looks unlikely at the moment.

While Balotelli is expected to be in France for his medical, he will return to Liverpool if Nice fail to finally agree a deal with the Reds by the end of the day.
