Celtic defender Efe Ambrose has knocked back the chance to join Belgian side Standard Liege.

The Scottish champions have been attempting to move Ambrose on before the window closes and the Nigerian defender is unlikely to be included in Celtic's Champions League squad, which will be submitted by tomorrow night.

Ambrose had the chance to move to Standard Liege to get his career back on track, but according to STV, the defender opted to knock back the Belgian giants.

It is understood the Celtic star wants to stay in the UK.

So late in the window, Ambrose may well now be staying at Celtic, where he will look to fight for his place under Brendan Rodgers.
