Leeds United cannot recall Giuseppe Bellusci from his season-long loan deal at Italian side Empoli, it has been claimed.

The Whites have only three recognised centre-backs in their squad following the departure of club captain Sol Bamba by mutual consent earlier this week.

And that could pose a problem for head coach Garry Monk if he suffers injuries to his centre-back options; indeed, just injuries to two centre-backs would mean Monk having to draft in full-back Luke Ayling or defensive midfielder Liam Bridcutt to the heart of defence.

But Leeds cannot look to Bellusci to solve their problems.

The Italian defender cannot be recalled from his loan spell at Empoli, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, and is in Italy until the end of the season.

Bellusci was a controversial figure at Leeds and a section of fans were pleased to see him leave the club.

And he will not be returning this season.

Monk will have to make do with the squad he has put together until at least the winter transfer window.
