Rangers winger Barrie McKay thinks that Celtic will not underestimate him when the two clubs lock horns in the season's first Old Firm derby after the international break.

McKay enjoyed a breakthrough season with Rangers last term, but was tipped to struggle by some when the Gers were paired with Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

The winger was in sensational form at Hampden however and scored a superb goal to give Rangers the lead in extra time, while he then netted in the penalty shootout as Mark Warburton's men put the Bhoys to the sword.

McKay feels he proved his critics wrong in that match, with some saying he would not be able to stand up against Celtic.

"Before the game last year, people were telling me I couldn’t cut it, but it was up to me to try and prove that I could, and I felt I did that", he told his club's official site.

Rangers have been slowly finding their feet in the Premiership this season, with draws against Hamilton and Kilmarnock, though they have beaten Dundee and Motherwell.

McKay feels there are positives to take from the games with dropped points, although he knows Rangers are expected to win every week.

"It’s been a bit disappointing that we haven’t won all our games so far, but even from those games, there are a lot of positives to take.

"But, there is an importance to win every game here – you are at Rangers Football Club and you shouldn’t be here if you don’t think you should be winning a game.

"We need to win every game we play in, and the fans expect us to win every single game we play. We need to go out and perform the way we have shown we can", the winger added.
