Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has rubbished talk the Championship club could be looking to re-sign a familiar face in the shape of Nigel Reo-Coker.

The 32-year-old is available as a free agent and has been linked with a number of clubs, the midfielder's ability to move outside the transfer window system being a big draw.

Reo-Coker clicked up 123 appearances for Aston Villa after being snapped up from West Ham United in 2007 – and the Championship club have been linked with being amongst a group of clubs looking at signing the player.

However, Xia has wasted no time in rubbishing the suggestion.

Linking to a story suggesting Villa are in for Reo-Coker, Xia wrote on Twitter: "Rumour."

Reo-Coker has also been linked with Leeds United, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City.

North of the border, both Celtic and Rangers are claimed to be keen on the 32-year-old.

Reo-Coker, who won a whopping 23 caps for England at Under-21 level, left Aston Villa for Bolton Wanderers in 2011.

He headed across to North America in 2013, joining Vancouver Whitecaps, while he has also had spells with Chivas USA and Montreal Impact.
