Rafael Benitez has told his Newcastle United players they can allow themselves a moment to celebrate their 6-0 drubbing of QPR, but must quickly focus on their next match.

Newcastle were quickly on top at Loftus Road and it came as no surprise when they took the lead in the eleventh minute through Jonjo Shelvey, with the help of a big deflection on his shot.

It was 2-0 in the 29th minute, Ayoze Perez on hand to poke home a rebound from a Matt Ritchie shot, the Magpies taking a firm grip of the game.

Newcastle went in 2-0 up at the break, but needed only four minutes after the restart to make it 3-0 as Shelvey struck again, curling in a superb shot from around 25 yards out.

And a fourth arrived in the 57th minute, Ciaran Clark heading into the back of the net.

The Magpies were enjoying themselves and netted a fifth in the 64th minute, Aleksandar Mitrovic benefiting from good work from Christian Atsu to be left with a six-yard finish.

A sixth for the visitors was on the cards and QPR were left reeling when it came, Grant Hanley turning home a low cross from Clark in the 80th minute.

Benitez was delighted with the display, but stressed it is still only three points.

"The main thing for us was to get three points", he was quoted as saying by the Chronicle.

"As soon as the game was nearly won we needed to carry on and keep doing well.

"It doesn't matter if you score six goals, you get three points in the end.

"We have to be sure we enjoy it, but concentrate on next one", Benitez added.
