Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has hailed Hadi Sacko’s role in his side’s win over Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road.

The west Yorkshire giants put a halt to a poor run of form in front of their home fans with a narrow 2-1 win over Blackburn, with goals from Chris Wood and Kyle Bartley.

Despite making most of the play, Leeds struggled for more than an hour to open up Blackburn, but a wonderful cross from Sacko from the right flank set up Wood to open the scoring at Elland Road.

The Frenchman was a constant threat to the visitors’ defence all night, and Monk feels the winger was the symbol of all the good signs Leeds showed at Elland Road.

On the first goal, which Saco helped to set up, Monk told BBC Radio Leeds: “That was an excellent goal.

“I don’t like to single out players as it is pretty much a team effort, but he epitomised what our character was tonight.

“How much we wanted it, how much the will to win for each other, for everyone that was involved – staff, players, the fans – we wanted it so badly tonight.

“And I think it showed in that performance.”

Sacko joined Leeds this summer on loan from Sporting Lisbon, and has a goal and an assist to his name in six league games for the club this season.
