Celtic development squad boss Tommy McIntyre insists that there were plenty of positives to take away from his side’s 2-1 loss to Barcelona in a UEFA Youth League game on Tuesday.

On a day when the Celtic first team were thrashed 7-0 by the Catalan giants in the Champions League at the Camp Nou, the young Hoops put in a much better display.

Barcelona started the game brightly and took the lead in the third minute through Carles Perez before Jeremy Guillemenot doubled the home team’s lead at the Mini Estadi after the break.

Jack Aitchison reduced the arrears for Celtic in the 72nd minute, but the Scottish giants failed to score the equlaiser despite going all guns blazing late on.

And McIntyre, who feels playing in such matches will help his charges to improve their game, explained that he was pleased with Celtic’s display against Barcelona.

“Absolutely”, he told Celtic TV, when asked if his team are going to take away positives from the game.

“These games are the best for educating them, playing against a world class team.

“But I’ve got to say that on the day we could have taken something away from the game.

"The players stuck to the task and nullified any chances Barcelona had.”

Celtic will next play Ross County in a league fixture on Monday.
