Italian Serie A side Palermo are checking on the availability of free agent striker Marouane Chamakh, who has been on trial with West Brom.

Chamakh is able to join a club outside the transfer window system as he is a free agent, however it is unclear whether he is a realistic target for Palermo as he has been bidding to win a deal at the Hawthornes.

Nevertheless, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, Palermo are considering a swoop for the former Arsenal and Crystal Palace man.

Palermo are suffering a lack of goals in attack and are desperate to reinforce their striking options; they are second bottom in Serie A and have scored once in their opening three league games.

But with the transfer window having slammed shut, the Italian side are restricted to chasing free agents.

Chamakh, 32, was last at Premier League side Crystal Palace, having joined the Eagles from Arsenal in 2013.

He initially penned a one-year deal at Selhurst Park, before then putting pen to paper on a contract to take him through to the summer of 2016.

Chamakh struggled to make an impact with the Eagles and was released upon the expiry of his contract earlier this summer.
