Former Liverpool defender Mark Wright is expecting the Reds to have a comfortable evening against Derby County, who have been struggling in the Championship this season.

A minor blip aside at Burnley, Jurgen Klopp’s men have looked in good touch this season, and are going into the EFL Cup game tonight on the back of wins over Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea.

While the Reds have looked the part so far in this campaign, Derby have failed to carry forward their momentum from last season, and have struggled in the Championship.

With just one win in eight league games, Nigel Pearson’s men are closer to a relegation dogfight than fighting for a playoff spot, like they did in the 2015/16 season.

And with Liverpool in good form, former defender Wright is expecting Klopp’s men not to encounter too many difficulties in getting a win at Pride Park this evening.

The former Reds defender told LFC TV: “Derby aren’t playing well.

“They have lost their confidence from last season, they have not achieved anything to date.

“And it’s one of those games that you expect Liverpool to go down there and be successful in.”

Liverpool scored a notable win over Chelsea last Friday at Stamford Bridge, and are currently sixth in the Premier League table.
