Mark Warburton feels that Rangers are now starting to gain momentum after thrashing Queen of the South 5-0 at Ibrox to move into the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup.

Rangers had to wait until the 33rd minute to take the lead at Ibrox, with Michael O'Halloran and Niko Kranjcar combining well to put the ball on a plate for Jason Holt, who then side-footed a volley into the back of the net.

The Gers kept pushing and had chances through Clint Hill, Lee Hodson and Martyn Waghorn, but went in just 1-0 ahead at the break.

Rangers' second came just past the hour mark, with Andy Halliday, captain for the game, playing a one-two with Barrie McKay and then finishing well.

And just a minute later it was 3-0, with Waghorn curling a shot into the corner of the goal from around the edge of the penalty area.

Waghorn then struck again in the 71st minute, prodding in from an O'Halloran cross.

Matt Crooks was then borught off the bench for his Rangers debut, before Waghorn grabbed his hat-trick after being fed the ball by Kranjcar.

It ended 5-0 and Warburton was happy with what he saw as a good night's work.

He told BT Sport: "We dominated the first half and could have had more than one goal. Second half, we were more clinical after an untidy 10 minutes. Overall, a good night's work.

"At Rangers, there is always pressure to win, every game is a must-win game.

"We moved the ball nice and quickly and got good rotation, we got good pitch-time for our squad and we're pleased with the momentum we're gaining", Warburton added
