Nottingham Forest legend Steve Hodge believes that the Championship outfit were completely outplayed by frighteningly good Arsenal players on Tuesday night in an EFL Cup match.

The Gunners, who were overwhelming favourites to win the cup game at the City Ground, went into the half time break 1-0 up, courtesy of Granit Xhaka’s 23rd minute goal.

Fellow summer signing Lucas Perez then doubled Arsenal’s lead on the hour mark before grabbing his second just 11 minutes minute later.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then rounded off the scoring in injury time as Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions since their opening day 4-3 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League.

And Hodge, who also turned out for Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United amongst other clubs, admitted that Nottingham Forest were no match for the skilful Arsenal players.

"It’s frightening how good some of these players are”, he said on BBC Radio Nottingham.

“They [Nottingham Forest] were played off the park by skill."

Arsenal, who will next play Chelsea on Saturday, are currently fourth in the Premier League with 10 points from five outings.

All eyes will be on who the Gunners draw in the next round of the EFL Cup.
