Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has chosen to remain coy on his goalkeeping conundrum and has insisted that both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have impressed him this season.

The Reds snapped up Karius from Mainz in the summer, and the German was all but certain to start the season as the club’s first choice goalkeeper, but he fractured his hand just before the start of the campaign.

Therefore, Mignolet continued to remain in goal for Liverpool, and while Karius has returned to action, the Belgian has been preferred in the league games so far.

While Liverpool won comfortably at Derby County on Tuesday night in the EFL Cup third round clash, the German shot-stopper caught the eye with his performance.

However, it seems Klopp is in no hurry to make a swift judgment on who should be his number one yet, and stressed that he is happy with the performances of both goalkeepers.

The Liverpool manager said in a press conference: “It’s not a place to announce line-ups. We have to think about it in a very positive way.

“I was not a goalkeeper, my father was one, so I have a bit of experience. It’s different to changing a midfielder. Nobody asks then. I know about this.

“It’s a decision I will take, but I’m not sure I will do it in the next game; that doesn’t mean I won’t do it in the next five years.

"It's a decision at a high level because I am very happy with both of our 'keepers.”

“Nothing to say about this here.”

Mignolet has been criticised for his inconsistent performances between the sticks over the years, and has been heavily tipped to make way for Karius soon in the Liverpool goal.
