Tottenham Hotspur starlet Cameron Carter-Vickers has insisted that manager Mauricio Pochettino will provide opportunities to youngsters if they train hard.

The 18-year-old, who has progressed through Spurs’ youth set-up, made his senior debut for the club in their 5-0 win over Gillingham in an EFL Cup game on Wednesday night.

Carter-Vickers played the whole 90 minutes at White Hart Lane, where a Christian Eriksen brace, followed by a goal apiece from Erik Lamela, Vincent Janssen and Josh Onomah, helped the home team to comfortably see off Gillingham.

Besides Carter-Vickers, fellow academy graduates Marcus Edwards and Anton Walkes also made their first team debuts in the EFL Cup game, with the duo coming on as late second half substitutes.

And the young centre-back, who explained that Spurs’ academy is brimming with talent, thinks Pochettino will reward the starlets with opportunities if they work hard.

“You can look all through the academy, right from the young ages, there’s a lot of talent there”, he told Spurs TV.

“I think with especially with this manager, if you train well, play and train hard, you’ll get your opportunity.”

Onomah, who scored Spurs’ fourth goal, is also a product of the club’s youth system, with the attacking midfielder making his senior debut in January 2015 under Pochettino’s guidance.
