Anton Walkes has explained that it has been a “crazy” week for him after making his Tottenham Hotspur first team debut in the 5-0 win over Gillingham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

The defensive midfielder, who has been regularly turning out for the Under-23s in the Premier League 2 this season, came on as a 80th minute substitute at White Hart Lane, replacing Ben Davies.

Walkes’ week started on the wrong foot after his Under-23 side were thrashed 6-2 by their Liverpool counterparts in a league fixture on Monday.

And the 19-year-old, who admitted that he was extremely disappointed after the Liverpool game, however, insisted that his week turned around for the better, following his first senior appearance for Tottenham.

“It has been a crazy week”, he told Spurs TV.

“[After] Monday, it was hard to pick myself up in the morning and go again on Tuesday.

“But once I got some news that I was going to be in the squad, I quickly got out of that, got ready and got the opportunity, and my week has turned around.”

Walkes was not the only Spurs player to make his first team debut against Gillingham, with the starlet’s Under-23 team-mates Cameron Carter-Vickers and Marcus Edwards also turning out for the senior team for the first time in the domestic cup match.
