Northampton Town manager Rob Page admits that he feels disappointed after losing to Manchester United 3-1 in the EFL Cup.

While Manchester United dominated possession at the Sixfields Stadium, the Cobblers gave a good account of themselves, and the scores were level at half time despite the disparity between the teams.

However, goals from Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford in the second half secured Manchester United’s passage to the fourth round of the EFL Cup, but Page admit that the loss was disappointing.

The Northampton boss believes each of Manchester United’s three goals came from individual errors, which could have been easily avoided, and feels that his team stuck to their game plan well last night.

The Welshman told BBC Radio 5 live: “We are actually disappointed in the changing room.

“We knew they would have light spells of possession, we knew we would create a couple of chances, and it was important when we created those chances we take them; we did that with the penalty.

“What disappoints us tonight is the manner we conceded the goals, I think we had a hand in all three of them if I am honest.”

The first Manchester United goal came from Northampton goalkeeper Adam Smith picking up a back-pass, which ultimately led to Wayne Rooney’s deflected free-kick being slammed home by Michael Carrick.

Rashford’s goal in the second half was also a result of a goalkeeping error after Smith horribly misjudged the flight of the ball, which allowed the England striker to fire the ball into an open net.
