Sweden international Ola Toivonen says he still had a good time at Sunderland despite barely featuring for the Black Cats.

The attacking midfielder linked up with the Premier League side in the summer transfer window last year, penning a season-long loan deal to join from French outfit Rennes.

Toivonen was taken to Sunderland by Dick Advocaat, the Swede having worked under the veteran tactician at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

He enjoyed game time early into his Sunderland spell and provided an assist in his opening Premier League game, a draw against Aston Villa, before then steadily falling out of favour.

Indeed, the midfielder played just 15 minutes in the Premier League in the first half of 2016, Toivonen suffering badly from Advocaat's decision to leave the club in October.

But the Swede, who joined Toulouse this summer, is not about to regret his spell at Sunderland.

"My time in England was a very good experience for me, even though I did not play", he was quoted as saying by French outlet Foot Mercato.

Now Toivonen is looking to get his career back on track at Toulouse.

"I am very happy to have signed for Toulouse. I already feel very much at home in Toulouse with my family.

"I talked a lot with the coach before signing. I wanted to play as a number 10 and he understood that."
