Former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham forward Clive Allen feels the Hammers fans should feel worried about their side after Wednesday night’s performance against Accrington Stanley.

Despite their recent run of form, West Ham were overwhelming favourites to comfortably see off the challenge of a team from the bottom tier of English league football, and march on in the EFL Cup.

However, Slaven Bilic’s side huffed and puffed against their League Two opponents, and needed a sumptuous free kick from Dimitri Payet deep into injury time to get the win.

West Ham have received scathing criticism from fans and pundits for their form this season, and Allen feels Hammers fans should feel a little panicked about their side’s performances.

He pointed out that the east Londoners were again poor last night at the London Stadium, and only a moment of quality from Payet saved their skins.

The former Hammer said on BBC Radio 5 live when asked how worried West Ham fans should feel at the moment: “I would be extremely worried.

“Although there were seven changes from the Premier League team that lost to West Brom at the weekend, the way they played was poor.

“There was a lack of intensity about their game, the Accrington players certainly made their mark. Slaven Bilic was prowling around his technical area, and he made two substitutions at half-time, which were necessary.

“Payet and [Manuel] Lanzini were introduced to give them more quality, and in the end it came down to exactly that.”

West Ham are under pressure to turn their season around soon, and are up against Southampton this Sunday at the London Stadium.
