Lewis Walters has bounced back into football following his release by Leeds United, putting pen to paper with Championship giants Nottingham Forest.

Walters came through the youth ranks at Leeds and had been tipped for a bright future, however he was released by the Whites at the end of his contract with the club at the end of last season.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was quick to express surprise as he felt the forward could have gone on to big things and remarked at the time: "I’m a little bit surprised that Lewis Walters has not been given another contract.

"I thought he was somebody that could be a serious contender to start so that’s something I am a little bit disappointed about.

"I don’t think he has been given enough time and he definitely has the attributes there to be a great player", Whelan added.

The forward wrote: "So happy to have signed a contract with Nottingham Forest.

"Would like to thank my family and friends for all the support over the past few months! Looking forward to a new chapter and a fresh start!"

Walters will now look to get minutes under his belt with Forest on the training pitch as he bids to put himself in contention to feature for the club's senior side.

Nottingham Forest sit above Walters' former club Leeds in the Championship standings, with the City Ground outfit currently 13th in the table after taking eleven points from their opening eight league fixtures.
