West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic has revealed that Dimitri Payet’s free-kicks remind him of Manchester United legend David Beckham.

The France international, who is renowned for scoring frequently from free-kicks, added one more to his collection on Wednesday night when his strike from 25 yards out in injury time helped the Hammers to claim a narrow victory over Accrington Stanley in the EFL Cup.

Jamie Redknapp has also been impressed with the 29-year-old’s curling free-kick technique, with the former Liverpool star also claiming that they remind him of Beckham, who was one of the top dead-ball specialists during his playing days.

Bilic echoed Redknapp’s sentiment and explained that Payet focusses more on bending the ball than power, unlike current West Ham first team coach Julian Dicks, who was known for his hard-hitting free-kicks.

"I rate Payet highly”, he said in a press conference.

“Jamie Redknapp said he reminds him of Beckham when it comes to free-kicks.

"Julian Dicks used to smash them in, but then you have players like Beckham who bends the ball and Payet reminds me of that.”

Payet, who joined West Ham from Marseille last summer, has thus far scored once and provided four assists in as four appearances in all competitions this season.
