Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels Chris Wood has realised that at this stage of his career he needs to contribute more and step up to the plate to become the main man at Elland Road.

After a slow start to the season, the New Zealander has been in pristine form for Leeds recently, and has scored six goals in all competitions this term for Garry Monk’s side.

His goals have helped Leeds to shrug off their early season lethargy and go on a winning run of three games ahead of hosting Ipswich Town at Elland Road later today.

And with the way Wood has been playing, Leeds legend Gray is confident that the 24-year-old will find the back of the net again against Mick McCarthy’s side.

The Leeds legend told LUTV: “He has been on form as far as goalscoring is concerned, and that’s good.

“A centre forward scoring goals, it gives them confidence. The thing about strikers is that the more they score, the more they think they are going to score.

“He will be expecting to score on Saturday again, and I won’t be surprised if he does.”

Gray is also confident that there is more to come from Wood when it comes to his overall game, and feels the former Leicester striker has finally realised that he needs to become more consistent as a forward at this stage of his career.

“He is scoring goals, but I think he can contribute more, and he will as he is getting more confidence.

“Chris has reached that stage of his career where he knows that he is got to step up, and do it on a consistent basis.”
