Tottenham Hotspur legend Ray Clemence feels that Spurs' full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are not sound defensively, though the 68-year-old admits they offer much going forward.

Both Walker and Rose have become key men at White Hart Lane and played big roles last term as Spurs mounted a genuine title challenge lasting deep into the season.

Spurs ultimately fell short, but are back up in the mix again this term and sit a lofty second after six games, having collected 14 points.

Clemence is a fan of what Rose and Walker offer going forward, but with the goalkeeper feeling the art of defending for full-backs is on the wane, he thinks the pair are frail defensively.

Clemence said on LFC TV: "I think the defending of full-backs is becoming a lost art.

"You look at Tottenham and they've got Walker and Rose.

"They are devastating going forward, but you could look at both of them defensively and say they can be frail."

Clemence does not feel defensively-minded full-backs are in action at most teams, who instead focus on players with the pace to bomb forward down the flank and contribute in attack.

"I think most of the teams now have got brilliant attacking players with pace, so when they have to defend, if they get caught out, they've got the pace to get themselves out of trouble.

"But their main job seems to be the give the team width and get up the field", Clemence, who won the FA Cup and UEFA Cup at Spurs, added.
