Former Sunderland defender Phil Babb believes that David Moyes is now under real pressure following the Black Cats' 3-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

Moyes watched his side go 2-0 up by the hour mark at the Stadium of Light, looking on course for their first win of the season. But things then changed dramatically as Palace fought back to level the game by the 76th minute, while an injury time header from Christian Benteke secured all three points for the Eagles.

Sunderland sit bottom of the table with just a single point from six games and despite Moyes only having been appointed this summer, Babb believes he is already under pressure.

"You would have thought a 2-0 lead, at home, comfortable against Palace, one of their lower league rivals, [would be enough]", Babb explained on LFC TV, following Liverpool's 5-1 win over Hull City.

"I would say that Moyes is under a hell of a lot of pressure", the ex-centre-back continued.

"He came in and asked for time, was talking about a relegation fight after the third game – you don't want to hear that from your manager.

"I think he's under a lot of pressure", Babb added.

Next up for Sunderland is a visit from West Brom next weekend, while following the international break the Black Cats have trips to Stoke City and West Ham in the league, along with an away EFL Cup game against Southampton.

The 53-year-old has been sacked from his last two jobs, at Manchester United and Real Sociedad respectively.
