Chelsea legend Tommy Langley has pulled no punches in his assessment of the Blues' 3-0 defeat away at Arsenal, dubbing it "shambolic" and explaining Antonio Conte's men were "battered".

Conte's side, who enjoyed a promising start to the season before drawing at Swansea City and losing at home to Liverpool, were behind after just eleven minutes when Alexis Sanchez struck.

Theo Walcott made it 2-0 just minutes later with the Chelsea defence struggling, while when Mesut Ozil netted in the 40th minute it was game over for the visitors.

Chelsea did improve in the second 45, but Arsenal could still have extended their lead as it became an evening to forget for the Blues.

Langley feels that Chelsea did not improve from their defeat to Liverpool, making the same mistakes, and pulled no punches over the side's performance at the Emirates Stadium.

"It was shambolic. People will say it was better in the second half, but we gave ourselves far too much to do, as against Liverpool", he said on Chelsea TV, assessing the game.

"And that was my fear.

"We started off the same tempo as we did against Liverpool and we allowed very good footballers to play around us."

Langley does accept there was little the team as a whole could do about the first goal, which was caused by a mistake from Gary Cahill, however he still slammed all areas of the side for not doing enough.

"Saying that, you can't plan for how we conceded the first goal.

"We didn't create enough up front. We weren't good enough in midfield. we weren't good enough in defence.

"Overall we got battered and deservely lost the game", the Blues legend added.

Chelsea will want to recover quickly from the defeat and are next in action next weekend away at Hull City.
