Former Rangers winger Neil McCann has torn into Joey Barton for disrespecting Scottish football, along with disrespecting his team-mates.

Barton has been given a three-week ban by Rangers following a training ground bust-up with team-mate Andy Halliday, which followed hot on the heels of a 5-1 defeat to rivals Celtic.

The midfielder's performances had been criticised before his ban and stood in sharp contrast to his words off the pitch, where he vowed to dominate Scottish football and taunted Celtic skipper Scott Brown, arguing the Bhoys man was not in his class.

McCann is unhappy with Barton's comments, which he feels disrespected the Scottish game and his team-mates.

"First of all, what I want to say is Joey Barton is out of order for disrespecting the league that he is playing in", McCann said on Sky Sports 1 ahead of Rangers' clash with Aberdeen.

"He shouldn't be disrecpecting fellow professionals within this league and he shouldn't be disrespecting his team by saying about this lower level that he's operating in.

"He is part of that team, so that means he's culpable", the former Ger added.

Barton managed eight appearances in all competitions for Rangers before being slapped with a three-week ban and the jury is out on whether the midfielder still has a future at Ibrox.

He signed a two-year deal with Rangers in the summer.
