Ray Clemence believes a move to Liverpool has brought out the best in Sadio Mane, who he feels is now a much better player than he was at Southampton.

Liverpool paid a whopping £34m to sign Mane from Southampton this summer, handing the Saints a big profit on the around £12m paid to Red Bull Salzburg to sign the winger in 2014.

The winger has already started to repay Liverpool, scoring three times so far, while the Reds are unbeaten in the games he has turned out in; Liverpool's only league defeat at Burnley was missed by Mane with a shoulder injury.

Clemence, who turned out for Liverpool from 1967 until 1981, feels Mane did well at Southampton, but he thinks the Senegal international has improved even further at Anfield.

"I think we're seeing a different player to the one we saw at Southampton", Clemence said on LFC TV, following Liverpool's 5-1 win over Hull City.

"He was good at Southampton, but he's very good here", he added.

Mane made a total of 75 appearances across all competitions with Southampton during his two season spell at St. Mary's, hitting the back of the net on 25 occasions.

Still just 24 years old, Mane's switch to Liverpool made him the most expensive African player of all time.
