Julian Draxler, who was linked with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain over the summer transfer window, has revealed that Wolfsburg blocked him leaving the Volkswagen Arena.

The Germany international admitted during the window that he was keen to move on to take the next step in his career, but Wolfsburg were in no mood to play ball.

Wolfsburg only signed Draxler in the summer of 2015 from Schalke and did not want to quickly lose the attacking midfielder.

Draxler's performances were also impressive during the course of last season, as the German managed an overall 35 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing his team-mates with eight assists.

Reflecting on the events that transpired during the course of the summer, Draxler said that Wolfsburg quickly made clear he could not leave, though he does believe there will be fresh speculation in the winter window.

However, whether anything happens in the winter window is not something Draxler will be drawn into speculating about.

"I did not get the chance to switch clubs because Wolfsburg did not allow me to leave", Draxler told German magazine Kicker.

"There was a lot of speculation during the summer and some things were true, while others were false.

"There will likely be more speculation in January, but I will not initiate anything."

Draxler admits that being denied the chance to leave has affected him, but he is determined to focus on Wolfsburg at present.

"I am only human and what has happened has not left me unaffected.

"Football is business, though, and you have to focus on the task at hand. It is not always easy, but I know what's expected from me. I will work hard to do just that.

"We had some differences of opinion, but we have set those apart.

"There is no issue any more.

"Of course, it is not easy to forget what happened in the summer, but that is now in the past."
